Commencement Speaker Mark Rober visits MIT “Maker Alley,” and meets with children from the MIT Community for a design challenge.
Part 1 — MIT Maker Alley
- Stop 1: Visit of Toy Product Design Lab, and meeting with students
- Stop 2: Visit of Glass Lab
- Stop 3: Visit of Metropolis, and meeting MIT makers Charles Yong and Cat Arase
- Stop 4: Visit of MIT Media Lab's Biomechatronics group, and meeting with Director Dava Newman, Research Assistant Michael Fernandez, Research Scientist Dr. Cameron Taylor, and Research Assistant and 2023 MAD Fellow Francesca Riccio-Ackerman.
Part 2 — Design Challenge with children
Fifty children from the MIT community, divided into age-diverse groups, were tasked with creatively moving a ball from one side of a table to the other using available materials like cardboard, tubes, wires, cups, tape, scissors, and markers.
Commencement Speaker Mark Rober joined to discover the teams' solutions, a Q&A, pizza, and even selfies!
