Plug-and-Play: Increasing Autonomy in Apartment Living With Flexible Modular Design
About
Alex Stewart, designer and Master of Architecture student, is reimagining how amenities (kitchenettes, refrigerators, toilets, sinks, desks, etc.) can be installed and personalized in living spaces.
Solution & Impact
Alex's work focuses on redesigning apartment walls and floors, as well as connections to air, plumbing, and electricity, to make the installation, removal, and personalization of everything from a stove to a bed to a laundry machine more user-friendly. This intervention aims to allow residents to have adaptable housing environments where they can easily customize their apartment layout and aesthetic according to their needs, fostering autonomy and self-expression.
