

The MIT Morningside Academy for Design (MAD) offers resources for makers across the MIT community. Metropolis and The Deep makerspaces, as well as the N52 Fabrication Shop, welcome undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and researchers, to explore, experiment, and innovate through hands-on making.

Orientations, Scheduled Trainings & Open Hours
Metropolis (6C-006B), operated by MIT Project Manus, is open to all members of the MIT community (students, staff, and faculty). It offers M1T (formerly MakerLodge), a training for first-year MIT students, student-mentor based training, and a strong maker community.

N52 Orientation Session
The N52 fabrication shop is home to a number of undergraduate classes focusing on design across multiple majors, the DesignPlus Learning Community, and the greater MIT community. Our shop has a wide variety of equipment to accommodate projects across disciplines, types of materials, and working both traditionally and digitally.
Who can use the N52 Shops?
The N52 MAD fabrication shop is open to the MIT community (students, faculty, and staff) after completing a general orientation.
Where are you located?
We are located on the 3rd floor of Building N52.
What are your hours?
Our operating hours can be found on this calendar. Students taking classes in the MIT MAD space and members of the DesignPlus First-Year Learning Community have 24/7 access.
How do I get access?
Sign up for a general orientation. Specific machines require additional training.
Do you provide materials?
We have some scrap materials, but users should generally plan to bring their own materials.
